Hey Crew,

I wanted to bring this to everyone's attention because I know it's happened
to more than a few people. Myself I've been testing online backup systems.
Recently I've tested both Carbonite and Mozy backup systems. Both company's
offer unlimited storage plans, Carbonite is 39 to 49 per year, and Mozy is
similar, or you get price breaks for paying 1 or 2 years prepaid, and you
can also do 4.95 monthly.

In my experience with Carbonite, I found the interface very 2001 looking,
and contained extremely limited data as far as information about my backups.
It did contain an icon within My computer to which I could retrieve
backup's with, but the major downside was that they automatically don't
include mp3s, video files, etc in folders for backup that you select. Also
the only way to add folders/files was to do it from the explorer. If you
wanted to add mp3s/videos you'd have to click on EACH file, one by one to do
it. In other reviews I also read that these exclusions are automatically
changed without notice from Carbonite. I removed the service from this PC
last night. On a side note, there is no current Mac version.

On the flip side we have Mozy, which has won a nice handful of awards in the
recent years. They too offer a unlimited package, which you can pay 4.95
per month to obtain. There client automatically looks at your drive, and
suggests backup sets, which out of the box include backing up Visual Studio,
Outlook 2007, and more (Both very nice for developers like me out there).
There client is one of the easiest I've seen, select the files you want to
put into a backup set, and done. You can even apply filters to your sets,
for more control on what to backup, and what not to. There client also
automatically encrypts your data with a 444-Bit encryption for security.
Mozy also includes abilities when to use the internet connection, how
heavily, how long, when not to, etc, Carbonite only allows priority settings
to be given to your VOIP devices.

Overall both systems have unlimited data, they both have software clients.
Mozy does excel in usability with its cleaner, more configurable client, and
even allows you to restore files remotely via your web browser. In my
opinion Mozy is one of the best backup services I've found out their today
with the balance of power, and end user usability, even for novice users.
If you want to check them out, go to https://mozy.com/?ref=8JXU87 and if you
want to review Carbonite, you can get them at http://www.carbonite.com

Carbonite does have a 15 day trail, Mozy currently does not, but Mozy
doesn't charge per year like Carbonite does also.

(Was bored at work, and thought this would be of benefit to others)
