Ok... here's my problem. I have 3 soundcards... a radioshack mixer... and a whole whack of cables! What i want to do... is i want to wire everything up so that i can use vent and skype together... so that both can hear eachother but not hear themselves... and have me talk and both hear them but me not hear myself. There has to be a way to do it... i just cant seem to figure it out...

The soundcards i have are: SB Audigy Pro with Audigy Drive, SB Live 5.1 and an onboard C-Media card.

The mixer i have is a 5 channel mixer... 3 mic inputs and 2 lines. It has the ability to monitor sources... but one at a time.

Is there anything else i would need to buy? Or is there a way i can use my existing hardware to do it.

Please post back on this all you geeks! (kidding on that)

Ok, hears a way to do it. You going to need a lot of special cables and are probably going to have to make some of them your self.

You use soundcard 1 for skype, soundcard 2 for vent and soundcard 3 for everything else (headphones).

We are going to need the line out signal from SC1 in two places, so you have to split the signal. Connect it to cd_in on SC3, later we are also going to connect it to the mixer.

We are also going to need the line out signal from SC2 in two places, so you have to split the signal. Connect it to aux_in on SC3, later we are also going to connect it to the mixer.

Now you should be able to hear them both in stereo, so lets connect the mixer.

Since you only got one mixer, you are going to hear them in stereo, but they will have to settle for mono. Instead of a stereo mixer, we are going to treat it like a mixer with two mono channels.

Connect:
line out SC1 Right to line 1 Right
line out SC1 Left to line 2 Right
line out SC2 Right to line 1 Left
line out SC2 Left to line 2 Left
Connect your mic to mic1

Are you with me so far? Now we connect the mixer line out. You have to split the signal so its on both channels then it goes in to the soundcard.
Connect:
Mixer line out Right to SC2 mic in (Left and Right)
Mixer line out Left to SC1 mic in (Left and Right)

Happy now? You just ruined my nigh sleep. Its 4 a clock in the morning and i just had to write this since your question has bin nagging me since yesterday, and I just solved this after I went to bed. I take no responsibility what so ever that this solution will work, or not damage you, your computer or your mental health, or even make sense if your blood alcohol level is less then lethal. :-)

Wow! Now that is complicated, and even with my blood alchohol levels peaking, I cannot fathom this mass of complication...

But that's OK cause it aint my problem. If it works though, HUGE KUDOS to hammer for figuring that one out...

Wow, this would be so much simpler with even a mid-level mixer. Mic into mixer channel one, vent into mixer channel two, skype into mixer chennel two, turn up mic and vent in aux 1, connect aux 1 to skype input, turn up mic and skype in aux 2, connect aux 2 to vent. And at that point, you can mix and match any sound loop, like a hardware phone patch. And you actually get volume controls on all that; the moment someone says something's too quiet or loud and you have to figure out how to adjust it with that wire loop up there, grats on your head exploding Either way, what works works, I suppose.
