Yohaus
As you probably know by now I have been in pretty bad shape lately. I have been in the hospital since Monday March 24 battling severe Colitis and Pancreatitis symptoms. I was unresponsive to all medications doctors were administering and my condition continued to deteriorate. Doctors felt the only way to help me at the time was to perform a major operation and remove my large intestine altogether. By this time the pain I was experiencing was unbearable as I underwent several tests and scans to make sure I would make it through the surgery. After all the tests came back positive that the operation can be performed I had to make a big decision; go with the surgery or try an experimental medication with harsh side effects and unproven results. I knew that after the surgery my life wouldn't really be the same and even thought all the test came back ok there still was a chance I might not make it through. With the experimental medication there was no real guarantee it would help and how much time I had to give it to work. While waiting for my decision I was carefully monitored as doctors felt the more time they waited the more dangerous the procedure would become due to the possibility of perforations in the large intestines.
After 36 hours I made the decision to go with the surgery and the procedure was performed the same day. The operation took a little less than 4 hours and was a complete success. Since the operation I have been in recovery taking over 8 medications from high dose steroids, to a highly scheduled pain management plan. I progressed to a liquid diet after a few days and was up and walking a few days after that. It was a total of 16 days I spent in the hospital and now I am finally home. I am still in a ton of pain and taking a ton of medications to control it but it will be a while before I am 100%.
The operation has taken its toll on me physically, mentally and financially. While I've been dealing with the first two as best as can, my family and I are struggling with the costs required for all the medical costs. Prescriptions, doctor's visits, tests, equipment and cleaning supplies are extremely expensive as well as paying for the surgery itself. So I'm turning to you guys for help. If you can help my family and me out in any way possible it would be much appreciated. There is a donate link on the front page of www.nhbradio.com as well as www.nhbarmy.com and Sloan will be going on during tonight's normal TIOLI time spot to help raise money. Thank you all for your help, concerns and prays during this difficult time in my life.
Andrew
